About
Terrorism Portal
Conflict, Terrorism & Geopolitical Analysis — independent, open-source research presented with its evidence.
What we do
Terrorism Portal studies political violence, terrorism and the geopolitics of armed conflict. We publish in-depth dossiers on individual conflicts, shorter analysis, sourced maps and data, and maintain a Historical Database of incidents from 1881 to the present.
How we work
- Every factual claim and figure is attributed to a source, with a date and a link wherever one exists.
- Dossiers and analysis go through editorial review before publication; unreviewed pieces are clearly labelled.
- Terrorism is a contested category. We distinguish formal terrorism designations, insurgency and other forms of political violence, and say which definition a dataset uses.
- Photographs and video are used only under clear, reusable licences and are always credited.
- Errors are corrected openly under our Corrections Policy.
Formats
Each piece of research can be read as a full analysis, a five-minute or a two-minute summary, listened to, printed, or downloaded as an editorial PDF — all generated from the same reviewed text.
Languages
Terrorism Portal is prepared for English and Spanish. Translations are written and reviewed by people, never machine-translated; where a Spanish version is not yet available, the English original is shown with a notice.
