Live Evidence Monitor

Near-real-time global media reports filtered for terrorism relevance and signs of a current incident. These are evidence leads, not confirmed Terrorism Portal incidents.

Not loaded
Developing coverage can be incomplete, duplicated or wrong. Automated media matching plus current-incident headline triage is only a first-pass filter; a signal enters the historical database only after separate corroboration and classification.

About Terrorism Portal

Terrorism Portal is a public historical database designed to explore terrorist incidents across time, geography, organizations, methods and consequences. The project begins in 1881 and combines structured open-source records with additional filtering and normalization for public exploration.

What is included

  • Chronological event records
  • Locations and coordinates when available
  • Organizations and perpetrators
  • Attack types and casualty data
  • Interactive filters, map and analytics
  • Source provenance preserved at record level when available
Terrorism is a contested category. Some historical incidents, political assassinations, insurgent attacks and one-sided violence may sit near the boundary of competing definitions. Records should therefore be read together with their source and classification context.

Sources & Methodology

The current dataset is assembled from openly reusable sources and then deduplicated, filtered and normalized into a common JSONL structure.

Wikidata · CC0 Wikipedia · CC BY-SA UCDP GED · CC BY

Method

  • Wikidata provides the historical backbone and structured identifiers.
  • Wikipedia annual incident lists add additional terrorism-specific coverage.
  • UCDP GED contributes organized-violence records after conservative filtering.
  • Duplicate records are removed using identifiers, dates, locations and actor matching.
  • Missing values remain unknown rather than being invented.

Limitations

Coverage is uneven across periods and regions. Older incidents are generally less complete, casualty figures may differ between sources, and geocoding is not available for every event. The dataset will continue to be cleaned and expanded.
