Privacy Policy

Last updated 2026-08-25. Terrorism Portal is a small, largely static site — this describes exactly what it does and does not collect.

Browsing the site

Terrorism Portal has no user accounts, no advertising, and no third-party analytics or tracking scripts. The site does not set tracking cookies. It uses your browser's localStorage only for small, per-device conveniences (such as a cached live-feed response — currently unused while the live feed is disabled); that data never leaves your browser and is never sent to us.

Netlify, the host, processes standard web-server request logs (IP address, requested URL, timestamp, user agent) for operating and securing the site, per Netlify's own privacy policy. We do not separately collect or retain analytics beyond what Netlify's infrastructure logs for operational purposes.

Submitting the Contribute or Contact form

If you use /contribute/ or /contact/, the fields you fill in — name, email, and (depending on the form) affiliation, proposed title, summary, sources, an optional draft file, or your message and reason for writing — are sent to Netlify Forms, a feature of our hosting provider, and are visible to the Terrorism Portal editorial team. Neither form publishes anything automatically or shows your email address publicly. We use this information only to review your submission or reply to your message. It is not sold, shared with advertisers, or used for any purpose unrelated to that.

Both forms include a hidden honeypot field used purely for spam filtering; it collects nothing about legitimate submitters.

Data retention

Contribute and Contact submissions are kept for as long as needed to review or answer them and, if a Contribute submission is accepted, to credit and contact you about the resulting report; declined, answered, or stale submissions are periodically deleted from the Netlify Forms inbox. The historical dataset itself (event records) is sourced from public, third-party datasets — see Methodology — and does not contain data collected from Terrorism Portal's own visitors.

Your requests

To ask what information we hold about a submission, or to request its deletion, use the Contact form. We are a small project and do not claim certification under any specific data-protection framework (e.g. GDPR, CCPA) — but we will respond to reasonable requests in good faith.
